Adam Corrigan : Lone Ranger

It is no secret that Austin TX is the music capital of the world.  Austin is hosts to at least 8 major music festivals including SXSW, Austin City Limits Fest, Fun Fun Fest and the list goes on, not to mention the thousands of venues that host music events on a daily basis. Musicians all over the US move to Austin hoping for more exposure and an opportunity to perform to more “savvy” crowds.  It is no secret that we the crowd could be drowning Lone Star one after the other while listening to a band and unbeknownst to us two years later this same act is the same act travelling around the world delighting other crowds with their music. There are also thousands of local artists who were born and bleed music and just happen to be born in the right place, such as up and coming alternative folk artist Adam Corrigan.  Adam is a self-taught guitar player influenced by artists like Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and Willie Nelson to mention a few.  His raw sound and peculiar lyrics reminds us of the deep connection we have with our history and nature.  On his first solo album Rebel Ranks(2012) we see the raw nature of Adam as a song writer and as a singer.  His peculiar, yet distinctive voice does make you pay attention to what he has to say.  The album has a great cover of Woody Guthrie’s California Stars that makes you want to listen over and over again.  On his sophomore album called Teepee on My Land(2014) we see a more refined sound and more elegant arrangements.  Adam Corrigan wants his music to be heard and wants to get to the hearts of his listeners.  His ultimate goal is to reach and touch as much people as possible.  In his new project Thrifstore Wrangler he has teamed up with other local musicians to bring us an evolved sound yet keeping his Folk roots untouched.  I was lucky to hear a preview of the upcoming material and it sounds amazing, the sound has evolved to a more country and band Wilco comes to mind when you listen to it.  They will hit the studio in April and a party release later by the end of the year.  Like Adam, there are many musicians who self-finance their projects and go out to the different venues to play their music and sell their albums at the venue.  Support your local artists, buy a CD, buy them a beer and better yet, enjoy their magnificent effort and applaud their talent.
